Description

Silver, gilded and porcelain. 16 pieces; 8 knives and 8 forks. Baluster-shaped, lightly reliefed porcelain handles with a concluding knob. The handle is decorated on the front and back with delicate floral arrangements, scattered flowers and depictions of fruits in fine polychrome painting. Three-pronged forks and knives with conically curved blades made of gilded silver. Partially marked with 12 lot, assay and master's mark, mostly by Johann Benjamin Langenwagen (active around 1750), Dutch tax mark since 1909. Length: 20.5 cm - 22 cm. Compare: Rosenberg, Vol. II, No. 1676 and Vol. IV, 7557; Amme, Historical Cutlery, Catalogue No. 570 (handle shape). A rare 16-piece German Baroque cutlery with porcelain handles and gilt silver mountings by Johann Benjamin Langenwagen (active around 1750). Partly standard mark 12 lot, assay and master's mark. Dutch tax mark since 1909. German. Meissen and Dresden. Circa 1750.
