(1803 Middelburg - 1862 Kleve) Sailboats on the Coast, a finely drawn landscape, enlivened in the foreground by a sailboat on the shore and one in the background, which is being loaded straight. The painter, trained at the Amsterdam Art Academy, went to Kleve in 1834, where he founded his own academy in 1841, from which the Kleve Romanticism emerged. Koekkoek was honored multiple times from 1829 onwards and is considered one of the most important and successful landscape painters of the 19th century with international renown. Pencil on paper.
