(1786 Nördlingen - 1862 Munich) Scene from the Wars of Liberation 1813-1815. On a hill, an infantry detachment is marching, accompanied by two officers on horseback, one of whom is conversing with a civilian on a country road. In the background, there is a panoramic view of the landscape, intersected by small hills, with a village and individual one-and-a-half-story houses. The scene depicts volunteers of a Free Corps or an East German infantry regiment who fought against Napoleon’s Grand Army in the Wars of Liberation of 1813-1815. In one of the scenes in East Prussia, the topographical structure (with two intersecting forks in the foreground) and the unity of the soldiers are clearly visible. The filigree, vividly painted episode has obvious parallels with the works of Albrecht Adam. He himself experienced many battles during the Napoleonic Wars. Based in Munich since 1815, his virtuoso battle paintings brought him fame. Oil on canvas; 56.5 cm x 70 cm. In a frame. Circle of Albrecht Adam (1786-1862). Oil on canvas.
