

(1849 Freiburg - 1910 Karlsruhe) Landscape of the Campagna with resting women at a fountain. The landscape is enveloped in light, creating the impression of a Roman landscape. In 1871/72, the artist undertook his first extensive trip to Italy. Upon his return, he studied from 1874 to 1883 at the art school in Karlsruhe under the guidance of Hans Fredrik Gude, Eugen Bracht, and Gustav Schönleber. From 1886, Roman taught at the renowned painting school in Karlsruhe, which was re-established in October 1885. In 1895, he became its director. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated (18)92. 57 cm x 43 cm.
