(1842 Hamburg – 1923 same place) “Spring in Campania.” Original title. A cheerful, harmonious, light-filled landscape with a wide view from a high vantage point over the plains of Campania. In the foreground, a picturesque hut with a conical roof, two cypresses rising into the sky, and blooming fruit trees, as well as a young couple and another solitary figure. Painted in a bright, pastel color palette and partially with soft brushstrokes, creating an atmospheric landscape. Lutterroth studied from 1864 to 1867 under Oswald Achenbach at the Düsseldorf Academy. From 1868 to 1870, Lutterroth spent time in Rome and undertook study trips throughout Italy. Upon returning to his hometown, he gained significant reputation as a landscape painter, far beyond Hamburg. He attracted particular attention from the princely couple Friedrich Wilhelm and Victoria. One of his main themes was Italian landscapes and Venetian motifs. Oil on canvas; signed. Title and inscription “A Lutterroth Hamburg Uhlenhorst” on the reverse. 80.5 cm x 118.5 cm. In a frame.
