
Adolf Charles Maximilian Engel

(1801 Kortrijk/Courtrai - 1833 Ghent) Landscape with the Old Stone Bridge and Figures in Morning Light. A romantic atmosphere in the landscape by Engel, who studied under Pieter Frans (Pierre François) De Noter (1779-1842) at the Ghent Academy. He mainly painted in the picturesque regions of Flanders, Wallonia, and the Ardennes. Engel depicted scenes in Ghent, Douai, Brussels, and Lille, including the "Landscape with Cattle" from 1827, which is currently in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Oil on canvas; signed; 39 cm x 46 cm. Painting in a frame.
