View of the Rhine or Moselle landscape from a hill covered with old oaks, overlooking a valley with a medieval castle and town in the evening light, with a group of two girls on a forest path in the foreground against this backdrop. A mood landscape, executed in warm tones. Benneckenstein was represented at exhibitions of the Berlin Academy in 1856, 1858, 1862, 1864, 1870 and 1877. As indicated by the titles of his paintings, Benneckenstein undertook study trips to the Rhine and Moselle, as well as the Upper Bavarian Alps and Tyrol, the Harz and France.
