"Autumn" and "Winter": restored masterpieces of the 18th century

(Active in the 18th century) Pair of paintings with seasonal allegories of autumn and winter as pendants. Scenic representations, the "Autumn" depicting a young couple picking grapes and the "Winter" depicting a peasant couple carrying firewood in a snow-covered landscape with a village in moonlight. Oil on canvas; restored; verso on the stretcher each with branded mark "FW". 90 cm x 71 cm. Housed in original carved Rococo frames made from solid wood. Provenance: From a private collection in northern Germany; acquired at the Hans Stahl auction house, Herrenhaus Toestorf, 08.05.1999, lot no. 120. German painter active in the 18th century; oil on canvas. Restored. Each with branded mark "FW" on the canvas stretcher. Original carved wooden frames.
