"Wandering Gypsies with a Menagerie: Picturesque Setting of the 19th Century"

(Active in the second half of the 19th century) Traveling folk with menagerie at rest in the Hungarian Puszta. Picturesque scene of a wandering circus group with a two-wheeled cart, passing through villages. In the center of the painting, a seated girl in a bright red dress trains a white poodle, while on the left side of the image, a woman prepares food for two young men at the campfire. As animals, the right side of the painting depicts two horses and a resting donkey, with an owl in a cage and two playful little monkeys, a white cockatoo, and a colorful parrot on the cart. The painting presents a typical romanticized and atmospheric representation of the traveling folk, as also depicted by many Austrian and Hungarian painters, including György Vastagh (1834-1922) and Mihály von Munkácsy (1844-1900). Oil on canvas; signed indistinctly; 88 cm x 105.5 cm. Framed. Austrian or Hungarian painter active in the second half of the 19th century; Oil on canvas. Indistinctly signed.
