(1851 Bietigheim/Württemberg - 1917 Karlsruhe) Canal in Rotterdam. The high-format work painted by Schönleber provides a view of the canal towards St. Laurens (Laurenskerk) in Rotterdam. During his years of study in Munich, Schönleber traveled to the Netherlands from 1873 to collect motifs for his paintings, which he then worked on in his studio. In 1880, he was appointed as a professor at the Karlsruhe Art School, where he introduced new impulses in landscape painting, particularly in the representation of light. He also introduced his students, such as Friedrich Kallmorgen, to the new art movement of Impressionism. Oil on wood panel. Signed and dated Munich 1874. Dimensions: 49 cm x 38 cm. Framed.
