(1842 Hamburg - 1923 ibid) "Spring in the Campagna". Original title Cheerful, harmonious, light-filled landscape with a wide view from an elevated standpoint onto the Campagna plain. In the foreground, a picturesque hut with a cone-shaped roof, two cypress trees towering into the sky, and blooming fruit trees, as staffage a young couple and another individual figure. Painted in a bright, pastel-toned color palette and partially soft-pastose brushwork, creating an atmospheric landscape. Lutterroth studied from 1864 to 1867 with Oswald Achenbach at the Düsseldorf Academy. From 1868 to 1870, Lutterroth spent time in Rome and undertook study trips throughout Italy. Upon his return to his hometown, he gained a significant reputation as a landscape painter, extending far beyond Hamburg. Particularly, the Crown Prince couple Friedrich Wilhelm and Victoria personally appreciated him. One of his main subjects were Italian landscapes and Venetian motifs. Oil on canvas; signed. Titled and inscribed "A Lutterroth Hamburg Uhlenhorst" on the reverse. 80.5 cm x 118.5 cm. Framed.
