Description

Around 1830-1890. Was based in Berlin. Rhine or Mosel landscape view from a hill covered with old oaks, overlooking the valley with a medieval castle and town in the evening light, populated in the foreground by a group of two girls on a forest path. A mood landscape painted in warm tones. Bennec(k)enstein was represented at the Berlin Academy exhibitions in 1856, 1858, 1862, 1864, 1870, and 1877. As the titles of his paintings suggest, Bennec(k)enstein undertook study trips to the Rhine and Mosel, as well as to the Upper Bavarian Alpine region and to Tyrol, the Harz, and France. Oil on canvas; signed and dated 1874. 62 cm x 88 cm. Framed. Literature: Thieme-Becker, Vol. III, p. 332.
