
(Active around 1800) Pair of Allegories of Music Counterparts. Oval, finely painted compositions with scenic representations in Arcadian landscapes. Resting under a tree, young ladies; one in an antiquizing dress with laurel wreath and lyre, gazing contemplatively towards the sky, accompanied by two small cupids, in the background Pegasus over a waterfall; the other in baroque attire playing the lute, accompanied by two cupids with sheet music and flute, in the foreground a small pair of swans. Each signed and dated 1803 with crowned monogram "AA". 21.5 cm - 22 cm x 16.2 cm (passepartout cutout). Framed. German or French painter of the Empire style active circa 1800. A pair of allegories of music. Watercolor and gouache on paper.
