

(1811 Kassel - 1858 Basel) View of the fortress and the town of Aarburg in Switzerland, executed with figurative staffage, finely and richly detailed, in a romantically painted composition with a round arch cutout. Guise, who settled in Basel in 1833, created especially watercolors with city views, which also served as templates for lithographs. Watercolor on paper, originally laid down by the artist on black paper with an architectonic golden circular arch. Signed and dated 1840. Depiction approximately 21 cm x 16.7 cm. Framed.
