On a round pedestal adorned with flowers stands a standing Chinese figure in a purple robe and green trousers, holding an umbrella, depicted in fine polychrome painting. The later pedestal, with a tableau and side vessels for ink and sand, is decorated in black-grounded, Japanese lacquer painting with cranes, ducks, and flowering branches in a light reddish-brown tone, overdecorated with gold painting and intricately crafted relief-mounted gilded bronze. In the inventory number on the base: KG 2805. Restored; sword mark. Height: 16 cm. Dimensions: 32 cm x 23 cm. Such bronze-mounted ensembles were highly sought after in the 18th century, and the incorporation of porcelain figures into elaborate bronze mountings was predominantly carried out in France. See catalog of the Museum Schwerin, figure 87. A gilt bronze mounted writing set with a porcelain figure of a Chinese man. Figure restored. Base later. Crossed swords mark. Meissen. Circa 1750.
