

(Active in the 18th century) A pair of paintings with allegories of autumn and winter depicted as couples. Landscape images, "Autumn" depicts a young couple harvesting grapes, while "Winter" depicts a peasant couple carrying firewood in a snowy landscape with a village under moonlight. Oil on canvas, restored; on the reverse of each canvas is a tapestry with the stamp "FW". 90 cm x 71 cm. Housed in original carved Rococo solid wood frames. Provenance: From a private collection in northern Germany; acquired at Hans Stahl Auction House, Töstorf Estate, 08.05.1999, lot No. 120. German artist, active in the 18th century; oil on canvas. Restored. Each with the "FW" stamp on the canvas tapestry. Original carved wooden frames.
