A view of the Rhine or Moselle landscape from a hill covered with old oaks, overlooking a valley with a medieval castle and a town in the evening light, in the foreground against a group of two girls on a forest path. A mood landscape, executed in warm tones. Bennekenstein was exhibited at the Berlin Academy in 1856, 1858, 1862, 1864, 1870, and 1877. As indicated by the titles of his paintings, Bennekenstein made trips to study the Rhine and Moselle, as well as the Upper Bavarian Alps and Tyrol, the Harz, and France.
