(Active in the second half of the 19th century) Traveling Gypsies with a menagerie in tranquility on the Hungarian Puszta. A picturesque scene of a wandering circus troupe on a two-wheeled cart passing through villages. In the center of the painting, a seated girl in a bright red dress is training a white poodle, while to the left of the image, a woman is preparing food for two young men by the campfire. Among the animals, on the right side of the painting, are depicted two horses and a resting donkey, with an owl in a cage and two playful monkeys, a white cockatoo, and a colorful parakeet on the cart. The painting presents a typical romanticized and atmospheric depiction of wandering Gypsies, as also portrayed by many Austrian and Hungarian artists, including Jörg Vastagh (1834–1922) and Mihály von Munkácsy (1844–1900). Oil on canvas; signature insufficiently legible; 88 cm x 105.5 cm. In a frame. Austrian or Hungarian artist, active in the second half of the 19th century; oil on canvas. Signature insufficiently legible.
