Description

(Active in the 18th century) A pair of paintings with allegories of autumn and winter as couples. Landscape depictions: "Autumn" portrays a young couple gathering grapes, and "Winter" depicts a peasant couple carrying firewood in a snowy landscape with a moonlit village. Oil on canvas, restored; on the reverse of each canvas is a stamp "FW". 90 cm x 71 cm. Preserved in original carved Rococo solid wood frames. Provenance: From a private collection in northern Germany; acquired at the Hans Stahl auction house, Töstorf estate, on May 8, 1999, lot no. 120. German artist, active in the 18th century; oil on canvas. Restored. Each with a "FW" stamp on the canvas. Original carved wooden frames.
