Characteristic Shepherd Scene by Meissner, Depicting Animals with Lifelike Detail and Effectively Rendering a Winter Landscape. Meissner, who was trained at the Dresden Academy by Robert Kummer and settled in Munich from 1870, created a large series of comparable winter shepherd scenes. He is counted among the main masters of Munich animal painting, alongside Anton Braith, Otto Gebler, and Heinrich v. Zügel. In 1875, the Dresden Picture Gallery acquired a winter shepherd scene.
