(1848 Ivry-sur-Seine - 1901 Bois-de-Roi) Summer in the Garden, painted in a broad, dynamic brushstroke and with contrasting colors, is an impressionistic depiction of a young lady with a fan, seated in a relaxed pose on a folding chair in a blooming, summery garden. This work by Moreau de Tours is stylistically and thematically characteristic, as he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts under Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889) from 1865 and regularly exhibited at the Salon from 1875 onwards. Oil on canvas; signed and inscribed; estate stamp and number 365 on the reverse. 40.5 cm x 32 cm. Framed.
