(1808 Magdeburg – 1886 Berlin) Two children visiting a stable. Executed in a highly lively, finely detailed style, this depiction of animals, inspired by nature, demonstrates a delicate, lace-like manner. The portraitist and animal painter was a student of Franz Krüger and regularly participated in exhibitions of the Berlin Academy, including the 1844 exhibition, where an equestrian portrait of Prince Albrecht was presented. In 1860, Randel exhibited an identical or comparable painting titled "Pony" at the well-known art dealership of Louis Sachs in Berlin, which, in addition, depicted a young girl, a seated boy, a dog, and several puppies in front of a house door (quoted from "Dioskuren," issue 18, April 29, 1860, p. 150). Oil on canvas; signed and dated 1860. Frame. 52.5 cm x 63 cm.
