(1837 Frankfurt am Main - 1907 ibid.) A Russian loving couple on horseback. A delicately executed genre painting by Bär. The artist studied at the Städel Art Institute in Frankfurt under Jakob Becker and Edward von Steinle. Bär's work was significantly influenced by his multiple trips to Russia, during his extended stays in the Smolensk Governorate in 1867-1870 and 1877, where he thoroughly studied the country and its people. Due to the motifs he often depicted from Russian folk life, he was also called "Russian Bär." In 1897, Bär was appointed head of a workshop at the Städel Art Institute and became a professor in 1899. Oil on cardboard. Signed and dated 1898. 26.5 cm x 19 cm. In a frame.
