(1848 Ivry-sur-Seine – 1901 Bois-de-la-Roi) Summer in the Garden, painted with broad, dynamic brushstrokes and contrasting colors, is an Impressionist depiction of a young woman with a fan, seated in a relaxed pose on a folding chair in a blooming summer garden. This work by Moreau de Tours is stylistically and thematically characteristic, as he studied at the School of Fine Arts under Alexandre Cabanel (1823–1889) from 1865 and regularly exhibited at the Salon from 1875. Oil on canvas; signed and inscribed; estate stamp and number 365 on the reverse. 40.5 cm x 32 cm. Framed.
