(1851 Bietigheim/Württemberg - 1917 Karlsruhe) Canal in Rotterdam. This large-format painting by Schönleber offers a view of a canal towards St. Lauren's (Laurenskerk) in Rotterdam. During his student years in Munich, Schönleber visited the Netherlands from 1873 to gather subjects for his paintings, which he later worked on in his studio. In 1880, he was appointed professor at the Karlsruhe Art School, where he introduced new impulses to landscape painting, particularly in the depiction of light. He also introduced his students, such as Friedrich Kallmorgen, to the new artistic movement of Impressionism. Oil on wooden panel. Signed and dated "Munich 1874". Dimensions: 49 cm x 38 cm. Framed.
