

(1880 Noyce – 1952 Wittlaer near Düsseldorf) "Maas Rotterdam". Original title "View of Sailing Ships on the Maas". An early Impressionist landscape by Clarenbach from his study period at the Düsseldorf Academy. At the age of 15, he went on a business trip to Dutch Zealand, during which this painting was created. From 1902/03, Clarenbach triumphed with his landscapes and taught at the Düsseldorf Academy from 1917 to 1945. Oil on cardboard. Signed and dated, lower right with date 6.9.(18)95. The reverse bears a studio label (inscribed "Professor Max Clarenbach, Wittlaer near Kaiserswerth, Rhein Haus Clarenbach") with the title and date repeated. 21 cm x 19.5 cm. In a frame.
