

(1880 Neuss – 1952 Wittlaer bei Düsseldorf) “Maas Rotterdam.” Original title “View of Sailing Ships on the Maas.” An early impressionistic landscape by Clarenbach from his period of study at the Düsseldorf Academy. At the age of 15, he went on a study trip to Dutch Zeeland, during which this painting was created. From 1902/03, Clarenbach triumphed with his landscapes and taught at the Düsseldorf Academy from 1917 to 1945. Oil on cardboard. Signed and dated; lower right with date 6.9. (18)95. The reverse, with a studio label (inscribed “Professor Max Clarenbach, Wittlaer bei Kaiserswerth, Rhein Haus Clarenbach”), is again titled and dated. 21 cm x 19.5 cm. In a frame.
