

(1811 Kassel - 1858 Basel) View of the fortress and town of Aarburg in Switzerland, executed with figural characters, meticulously and richly detailed, in a romantic picturesque composition with a rounded arch cutout. Giese, who settled in Basel in 1833, created particularly watercolors of city views, which also served as templates for lithographs. Watercolor on paper, originally mounted by the artist on black paper with an architectural gold rounded arch. Signed and dated 1840. Image approximately 21 cm x 16.7 cm. Framed.
