

(1786 Kiel – 1864 London) Still Life with a Vase and Roses on a Stone Plate. A rare still life in the Biedermeier style, executed by a versatile and gifted artist who studied at the academies in Dresden and Munich, as well as in the studio of Jacques-Louis David in Paris in 1811/12. From 1813 to 1832, Bendixen worked in Hamburg before moving to London. In close contact with Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, he also exchanged works of art for scientific purposes from 1824 to 1826. Oil on canvas, relined. Signature and date 1836 on the edge of the table. 40 cm x 30.5 cm. Frame. Provenance: from a private collection in North Rhine-Westphalia.
