

(1786 Kiel – 1864 London) Still Life with Vase and Roses on a Stone Plate. A rare Biedermeier-style still life by a comprehensively gifted artist who studied at the academies in Dresden and Munich, as well as in the studio of Jacques-Louis David in Paris in 1811/12. From 1813 to 1832, Bendixen worked in Hamburg before moving to London. In close contact with Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, he also exchanged artworks for scientific purposes from 1824 to 1826. Oil on canvas, relined. Signed and dated 1836 on the table edge. 40 cm x 30.5 cm. Framed. Provenance: from a private collection in North Rhine-Westphalia.
