(Active in the second half of the 19th century) Traveling Romani people with a menagerie in the tranquility of the Hungarian Puszta. A picturesque scene of a wandering circus group on a two-wheeled cart passing through villages. At the center of the painting, a seated girl in a bright red dress is training a white poodle, while on the left side of the image, a woman is preparing food for two young people by a campfire. As for animals, on the right side of the painting, two horses and a resting donkey are depicted, along with an owl in a cage, two playful monkeys, a white cockatoo, and a bright parrot on the cart. The painting represents a typical romanticized and atmospheric depiction of wandering Romani people, as also portrayed by many Austrian and Hungarian artists, including Jörgi Vastag (1834-1922) and Mihály von Munkácsy (1844-1900). Oil on canvas; signature insufficiently legible; 88 cm x 105.5 cm. Framed. Austrian or Hungarian artist, active in the second half of the 19th century; Oil on canvas. Signature insufficiently legible.
