(1842 Grasse – 1924 Asnières-sur-Seine) An impressive shepherdess with her dog on a vast landscape, depicted in the morning light with a bright, pastel color palette, apparently executed in an expressive manner. Charpen, a student of Charles-François Daubigny, belonged to the Barbizon school. He preferred to paint people in harmony with animals and nature, often depicting original landscapes featuring a shepherdess and her guard dog. Oil on canvas; signed; 39 cm x 55.5 cm. Original frame. Inscription with the artist's name and the note "Hors Concours."
