Description

(Active 1st quarter 18th century) Oval portrait of a young lady. Bust portrait of a well-adorned lady with long, blonde hair falling over her right shoulder. She turns her head slightly to the right in a gentle quarter-profile, and a brooch sparkles on the décolleté of her white blouse. In her left hand, she holds a dove-blue cloak. The portrait gains considerable plasticity and vitality through the soft lighting, subtle modeling, and the light reflections in the eyes. It reflects the influence of the French portrait painter Nicolas de Largillière (1656-1746), who greatly influenced the painting of his time throughout Europe with his portraits. Oil on canvas, relined; 75 cm x 61.5 cm. Framed. German portrait painter active first quarter 18th century; Oil on canvas, relined.
