(1786 Nördlingen - 1862 Munich) Circle Scene from the Liberation Wars 1813-1815. On a hill, an infantry unit is marching, accompanied by two officers on horseback, one of whom is speaking to a civilian on a field path. In the background, a panoramic view of a landscape traversed by small mountains, with a village and individual half-timbered houses. The scene depicts volunteers of a Free Corps or East Prussian infantry regiment, who fought against Napoleon's Grande Armée in the Liberation Wars 1813-1815. In one scene in East Prussia, both the topographical structure (with the two crossed forks in the foreground) and the uniformity of the soldiers are evident. The finely painted, vividly depicted scene shows evident parallels to the works of Albrecht Adam. He himself experienced numerous battles as part of the Napoleonic Wars. Based in Munich from 1815, his virtuosic battle paintings made him famous. Oil on canvas; 56.5 cm x 70 cm. Framed. Circle of Albrecht Adam (1786-1862). Oil on canvas.
