"Summer Garden" - the original name

(1872 Berlin - 1932 Neubabelsberg) "Summery Garden". Original title. Painted with virtuoso loose brushwork in vibrant, contrasting colors, this artwork depicts a summery garden view. It was created by Hübner around 1929 and likely portrays a motif from the vicinity of his residence in Neubabelsberg (see "From the Garden of Dr. Jakob Goldschmidt", Neubabelsberg, 1927, Catalog No. 293). Hübner, trained in Karlsruhe from 1892 to 1895 and a multiple award-winning Impressionist artist, became a member of the Berlin Secession in 1899 and served as the head of a master studio for landscape painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin in 1914. His Impressionistic style, influenced by Monet, is characterized by luminous poetry and dynamically moving color surfaces. Oil on canvas. Signed. No. 121, 67.5 cm x 92.5 cm. Framed. Provenance: Galerie Abels, Cologne (year unknown). Swiss private collection. Literature: Westerhausen, Simone: Ulrich Hübner - City, Land, Sea. 2020, p. 348, Catalog No. 302 (with illustration).
