Description

Silver. Flat stand transitioning into an oval, bulging body with a hinged lid. The surface and lid adorned with radiating, delicately twisted, passively undulating waves. Gilded on the inside. Created by the master Georg Nicolaus I Bierfreund (became a master in 1740). Weighs approximately 100 grams. Height is 5.5 cm. Measures 9.5 cm x 7.5 cm. See catalog of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Volume I, Part 1, MZ 0065, BZ 39. A small Nuremberg Rococo sugar box crafted by Georg Nicolaus I Bierfreund (a master since 1740). Gilded on the inside. Hallmarks, assay marks, and master's mark present. German. Nuremberg. Circa 1760.
