

(Active around 1800) A pair of allegories of music. Oval, finely painted compositions with picturesque depictions in arcadian landscapes. Young ladies rest under a tree; one of them in antique dress with a laurel wreath and a lyre, gazing thoughtfully at the sky, accompanied by two small putti; in the background, Pegasus above a waterfall; the other in Baroque costume plays a lute, accompanied by two putti with sheet music and a flute, with a pair of swans in the foreground. Each is signed and dated 1803 with a crowned monogram "AA". 21.5 cm - 22 cm x 16.2 cm (cut in mat). Framed. German or French painter of the Imperial style, active around 1800.
