(1789 Hugoven - 1813 Amsterdam) The winter landscape depicts a snowy village with existing farmhouses and oaks; on the left in the foreground, an old woman and a young man with a dog are returning to gather firewood; on the right, in front of the entrance to the farmhouse, there are three additional figures. Atmospheric in mood, this rare work by the young artist who died early—of whom no other known paintings have survived—was previously known. Jan Wuring van Drielst studied under his stepfather Egbert van Drielst (1745 - 1818) in Amsterdam. This particular winter landscape, created in 1812, is immediately connected by its motif, style, and composition to his landscapes. Oil on canvas, relined; dimensions 63 cm x 72.5 cm. In a frame.
