(1880 Neuss - 1952 Wittlaer near Düsseldorf) "Maas Rotterdam". Original title "View of Sailing Ships on the Maas". An early Impressionist landscape by Clarenbach from his period of study at the Düsseldorf Academy. At the age of 15, he embarked on study trips to Dutch Zeeland, during which this painting was created. From 1902/03, Clarenbach triumphed with his landscapes and taught at the Düsseldorf Academy from 1917 to 1945. Oil on cardboard. Signed and dated; lower right and with the date 6.9. (18)95. Reverse with studio label (inscribed "Professor Max Clarenbach, Wittlaer near Kaiserswerth, Rhein Haus Clarenbach") again named and dated. 21 cm x 19.5 cm. Framed.
