Description

(1803 Flensburg – 1870 Altona) Portrait of the captain of "Alida, under command of Capt. H. A. Klein." Original title: Portrait of a three-masted barque under the flag of Hamburg, with the company flag "W" and another flag bearing the number "145." Lorenz Petersen, the son of a sailor, was active in Altona from 1830, where he created numerous ship portraits for captains, owners, and shipowners. Until 1858, Peter Petersen painted his marine pictures independently, and from 1858 to 1869, he worked jointly with his half-brother Peter Christian Holm (1823-1888). Oil on canvas laid down on Masonite, signed and dated 1848. 47 cm x 64 cm. Framed.
