(1889 Geneva – 1955 same place) "Après le bain". Original title. This is a portrait of a young woman, painted in bright colors, seen from behind, sitting on a garden chair on the embankment. It is a characteristic work of the Swiss artist Barraud, who mainly created landscapes around Lake Geneva, as well as nudes and female portraits. In 1914, he founded the group of artists "Le Falot" together with his brother François Barraud, Émile Bressler, Gustave Buchet, and Hans Berger, which served as a counterbalance to the dominant influence of Ferdinand Hodler. In this sense, Barraud admired the works of Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard, and Paul Cézanne and drew inspiration from their expressive and colorful style. Oil on canvas; signed and dated (1944). Various (gallery) labels on the reverse, including information about the title and provenance. 55 cm x 46 cm. Framed. Provenance: Galerie des Beaux-Arts Georges J. Caspar, Zurich, exhibition from November 11 to 30, 1944, No. 20; Kornfeld Gallery Auction, Bern, June 13, 2013, lot 211. Private Swiss collection. Dobiaschofsky Auction, Bern, November 4, 2022, lot 137.
