(1866 Zagreb – 1924 Vienna) Two lightly dressed friends in spacious shawls seem to have just finished a shared game of love. While one lady is still on the bed, the other stands before her, and the two friends exchange a meaningful glance. This is a characteristic work by Byron, who studied at the Vienna and Munich academies and is often mentioned alongside Aubrey Beardsley and Felicien Rops, defined by his carefree and provocative creativity, where the seductive image of woman reigns supreme. Woman always plays the role of the dominant temptress, embodying the fashionable image of the fin de siècle woman. In his ornate, playful, and compositionally outstanding works, characterized by virtuosic fine lines, Byron always conveys a pronounced sense of elegance and aesthetics, as well as satire and irony.
