    In the central part, within a circle of laurel and oak branches, text in two lines: '1/2 ESCUDO' (1/2 escudo), below it the metal fineness '25 GS 9 D. FINO' (25 grams 0.9 fine). The branches are tied at the bottom with a ribbon forming a bow. Along the edge of the coin, inscriptions from left to right: 'LA UNION ES LA FUERZA' (Unity is strength), at the bottom the minting year '1868', to the left of it the Latin letters '∙PTS∙', to the right '∙F∙E∙'. All inscriptions are in Spanish. Along the edge are decorative raised denticles.
  • Obverse
    In the central part is depicted the coat of arms of the Republic of Bolivia. It consists of an oval inside which are depicted: Mount Potosí, a rising sun on the left, a building on the mountainside, an alpaca at the foot facing right, a wheat ear, on both sides of the oval three flags, two rifles, a cannon barrel on the left, a halberd on the right, and an Andean condor perched on top. Along the rim is the country name in Spanish 'REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA' (Republic of Bolivia) split into two parts: 'REPUBLICA' on the left, 'BOLIVIANA' on the right, with eleven five-pointed stars at the bottom. Along the rim are denticle-like elements.
