    The central part depicts a portion of the national coat of arms: Mount Potosí, a rising sun on the left, a building on the mountainside, and an alpaca facing right and a sheaf of wheat at the foot. Below the image, six six-pointed stars are arranged in a semicircle. Around the edge of the coin, text from left to right: the country name in Spanish 'REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA' (Bolivian Republic), below the Latin letters 'PTS', the inscription '8S' (8 scudo), the mint year '1841', the engraver's mark 'LR', with dots between the inscriptions. The edge is decorated with decorative denticles.

    Centered is a right-facing portrait of Bolivia's first president, Simón Bolívar, wearing a laurel wreath on his head. Along the rim are inscriptions in Spanish: left and right 'LIBRE POR LA CONSTITUCION.' (Free by the Constitution), below the person's name 'Bolivar'. The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.
