Reverse The central part features a portion of the national coat of arms: Mount Potosí, with the rising sun on the left, a building on the mountainside, and an alpaca facing right and a sheaf of wheat at its base. Below the image, nine five-pointed stars are arranged in a semicircle. Around the edge, the text reads from left to right: the country name in Spanish 'REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA' (Republic of Bolivia), below the Latin letters 'PTS', the inscription '8E' (8 scudo), the mint year '1851', the engraver's mark 'MF', with dots between the inscriptions. The rim is decorated with decorative denticles.
Obverse Centered is a left-facing portrait of Bolivia's first president, Simón Bolívar. The name 'Bolivar' is in the truncation. Along the rim are inscriptions in Spanish: left and right 'LIBRE POR LA CONSTITUCION.' (Free by the Constitution). The edge of the coin features decorative raised denticles.
