(1817 Roskilde - 1877 Copenhagen) Napoleon's Command Post Fine, painted in a bright, tonal color palette, is a work of art by the Danish artist. In the background, one can recognize the Quandtsche Mill near Leipzig, which was used for the production of snuff tobacco. After Napoleon had set up his command post there on October 18, 1813, and shortly thereafter lost the famous Battle of Leipzig, the mill gained fame. The rider in the foreground can be interpreted as Napoleon himself. Wegener studied at the Academy in Copenhagen since 1831/38, where he taught as a professor from 1847. He spent the years from 1840 to 1843 in Germany, most of the time in Munich. Oil on canvas, relined. Signed and dated 1836. 42 cm x 59 cm. Framed.
