August Macke

"Голая девушка"
Description

The four years before World War I were among the strongest in Macke's oeuvre, during which several developments in modern art culminated. Dreamy park scenes and girls became central motifs of the expressionist. In 1910, he met Franz Marc, who became a close artist friend, and in 1911 he joined the artist group "Der Blaue Reiter" led by Marc and Wassily Kandinsky, in which he participated in their almanac and exhibitions. One of the last highlights in Macke's artistic life was the trip to Tunisia, which he undertook in April 1914 with Swiss painters Louis Moilliet and Paul Klee, and from which he returned with a wealth of magnificent watercolors. Pencil/paper. Verso presumably handwritten by his widow Elisabeth Erdmann-Macke with artist's note, title, location Bonn, and date 1911, as well as the estate stamp (Lugt 1775b). On the passepartout, also by the same hand, with artist's note, title, and dating, as well as the estate stamp with handwritten number BZ 2.24. Approximately 19.8 cm x 19.4 cm. Framed. Literature: Heiderich, Ursula: August Macke. Zeichnungen. Werkverzeichnis, Hatje, Stuttgart 1993, p. 358, Wvz.-Nr. 879. Exhibition: August Macke, Zur 20. Wiederkehr seines Todestages, Galerie von der Heyde, Berlin 1934, catalog no. 46 (?).
