(1929 Hamburg - 1995 ibid) "My first French poem". Original title: "To the artists he admired most, who always inspired Horst Janssen, belonged Jacques Callot (1592-1635), to whom he pays homage in this 1988 sheet with several grotesque figures in the style of his famous series of "Gobbi". The largest figure on the right side of the image is most likely an ironic self-caricature of Janssen's actions, as his physiognomy is unrecognizable. Horst Janssen is considered one of the most outstanding and productive draftsmen and graphic artists of the 20th century; in 1968, he was awarded the Graphic Prize at the Biennale in Venice. In 2000, the "Horst-Janssen-Museum" dedicated to him and his work was opened in Oldenburg. Mixed media (feather, watercolor, gouache, and whitening) / Japanese R. and signed; dated "11 (.) 2 (.) 1986", titled as well as the poem "Voilà (/) très bien: (/) le main (/) c'est moi"; below further inscription "to the 3 things I envy (/) belongs unconditionally the tangible beauty". Sheet 44.5 cm x 32.2 cm. Framed. This original was the template for the colored offset poster for the Janssen exhibition from November 6th to December 10th, 1988, at the Depelmann Gallery in Langenhagen. Mixed media (Indian ink, watercolor, gouache, and whitening) on Japan paper. Signed, titled, and dated (19)86.
