(1821 Beaume - 1911 Paris) "Le gondole". Original title Meisterhaft, executed in a few brushstrokes - a preliminary study of a fully occupied Venetian gondola with gondoliers. Ziem belonged to the Barbizon school, debuted in 1849 at the Salon in Paris, and thereafter became one of the regular exhibitors. In 1860, Ziem settled in the artist quarter of Montmartre. Ziem's favorite motif was Venice, where he traveled annually from 1841 to 1892. Oil on oak panel. Titled and inscribed on the reverse; 14 cm x 45.5 cm. Framed.
