August Wilhelm Ferdinand Schirmer
(1802 Berlin - 1866 Nyon) The old tree, full of atmosphere, finely nuanced in warm tones, depicts a mountain landscape with a fallen, old tree in autumnal coloring. Schirmer initially learned at the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Berlin and subsequently attended the academy as a student of Schadow. From 1827 to 1830, he stayed in Italy, where he developed and matured his characteristic coloristic strength. In 1831, he moved to Berlin, where he founded his studio, which quickly gained an outstanding reputation and produced numerous students. Oil on canvas, relined. Monogrammed and dated 1838. Restored; 38 cm x 31 cm. Framed.
