(1810 Munich – 1884 same place) Sunset on the Easter Lakes
Under a narrow crescent moon in a cloudless sky, illuminated by the last warm rays of the already set sun on the horizon, stretches a wide, completely calm coastal landscape, in the depths of which a few deer graze quietly. An exceptionally emotional, virtuoso, finely executed, characteristic impression by Zwengauer, who studied at the Munich Academy, among others, as a pupil of Peter von Cornelius. Trained in historical painting, Zwengauer was already drawn to the Bavarian and Austrian Alps in 1828, where he conducted extensive landscape studies and brought home numerous sketches and watercolors. Based on his subtle observation of nature, he developed a masterful passion for depicting atmospheric sunsets. Oil on canvas, lining. Signed. On the reverse — label of the Krone Art Salon, Hamburg. 53 cm x 99 cm. In a frame.
