(1814 Verle - 1883 Düsseldorf) Lake Hallstätter with boats in the evening light – a characteristic, coloristically rich late Romantic painting with a high density of atmosphere and a subtle sensitivity to light and the relief of the landscape. The artist Johann Wilhelm Schirmer, who studied at the Düsseldorf Academy from 1833 to 1840, mainly painted Alpine lakes, which he successfully exhibited starting from 1836. The work is executed in oil on canvas, measuring 60 cm x 93 cm, and is in its original frame. On the reverse side, remnants of the original label with the title remain. The painting is signed and dated 1845.
